Critical Sealing for Critical Operations
In the oil and gas market, maintenance activities and continued improvements are fundamentally essential to minimise downtime in all the complex processes. WR Gaskets Ltd recognise that gaskets have to be provided in a fast and efficient manner along with quality gasket and sealing products.
Global oil and gas trends may have fluctuated over the years but we have a team of highly skilled and experienced production staff. Following quality assurance processes has helped in maintaining consistency in our quality and service.
We work with maintenance teams, shutdown contractors, and procurement departments to make sure the right gaskets are available when they are needed. Our same day dispatch service is particularly valued during turnaround and shutdown periods.
Key Products for Oil & Gas
Gasket Types for Oil & Gas Service
Spiral wound gaskets are the most commonly specified gasket type in oil and gas pipework. We stock them in carbon steel with graphite filler for standard hydrocarbon service, and in 316 stainless steel with PTFE filler for sour gas or chemical injection lines. For higher pressure classes (Class 900 and above), ring type joint (RTJ) gaskets in soft iron, 304 SS, or 316 SS are standard, and we supply these to ASME B16.20.
Heat exchangers are found throughout oil and gas processing, and they need gaskets that can handle the thermal cycling between startup and shutdown. We supply kammprofile gaskets, which provide a reliable seal at lower bolt loads, and shaped gaskets for plate-type exchangers. Our Atom CNC cutting machines can produce these to exact dimensions from a drawing or an old gasket sample.
For general flange connections on process pipework, non-asbestos fibre gaskets are widely used on lower pressure services. We stock grades from Klinger, Garlock, and Novus Sealing that are rated for hydrocarbons, steam, and general chemical duty.
Valve maintenance generates a lot of gasket and packing demand. When valves are stripped down for overhaul, body gaskets, bonnet gaskets, and compression packing sets are all needed. We can supply packing in PTFE, graphite, and aramid fibre constructions depending on the valve duty. Our stud bolts and fasteners are also available to complete the flange assembly.
Flange isolation kits are another important product for this sector. They prevent galvanic corrosion and provide electrical isolation for cathodic protection systems. We supply complete kits including the gasket, sleeves, and washers.
For subsea and offshore topside work, material traceability is critical. We can provide EN 10204 3.1 material certificates, and all our gaskets are marked and labelled for identification. This is important during shutdowns where hundreds of gaskets may be issued to site at the same time.
Industry Standards We Work To
Gaskets for oil and gas applications are specified to ASME B16.20 (metallic gaskets) and ASME B16.21 (non-metallic gaskets). Our spiral wound gaskets, RTJ rings, and flat gaskets all conform to these standards. We also supply gaskets to BS EN 1514 and DIN specifications where required by European-designed equipment.
Material specifications commonly called up include ASTM F104 for non-metallic gasket sheets and API 601 for metallic gaskets. If your purchase order references a specific standard or material grade, we can match it and provide supporting documentation.
When Downtime Costs Money
Planned shutdowns and turnarounds in oil and gas can involve thousands of gaskets across hundreds of work orders. We have supplied gasket packages for shutdown contractors, with each gasket individually labelled by tag number or work order reference. This saves time on site because fitters can identify the right gasket for each joint without measuring up.
For unplanned breakdowns, our stock holding and CNC cutting capability means we can usually turn around urgent orders the same day. We hold thousands of cutters for ASME and BS flange sizes, so there is rarely a delay waiting for tooling. If you need a gasket that is not a standard size, send us a drawing or a DXF file and we can have it cut and dispatched quickly.
We have built long-standing relationships with maintenance teams and procurement departments across the UK's oil and gas sector. They come back to us because we deliver on time and the gaskets fit properly.
