Engineered for Chemical Resistance
We manufacture gaskets and seals for the petrochemical industry. We manufacture a range of gaskets for suitability with all the different standards, specifications and sizes for each of our petrochemical client's requirements.
WR Gaskets Ltd provides a range of sealing solutions aimed at the petrochemical industry, developed by building close working relationships with key suppliers of quality products to ensure reliability and safety. We also provide an important role in supplying gaskets and seals for types of valve and pump overhauls as well as specialist shaped heat exchanger gaskets.
We stock materials from manufacturers including Klinger, Garlock, and W.L. Gore for petrochemical service, from standard compressed fibre jointing to PTFE and graphite-based gaskets.
Key Products for Petrochemical
Gasket Materials for Petrochemical Service
Petrochemical plants handle a wide range of aggressive chemicals, high temperatures, and corrosive media. The gasket material has to be right for the specific service, or it will fail. For general hydrocarbon duty, compressed non-asbestos fibre jointing from Klinger or Garlock is the standard choice. For more aggressive chemicals, PTFE-based materials or GORE GR sheet gaskets are commonly specified because they resist almost everything except molten alkali metals and elemental fluorine.
Spiral wound gaskets with PTFE filler are used extensively on chemical process pipework where graphite filler would be attacked by the media. On hot services above 250°C, graphite-filled spiral wound gaskets are the better option because PTFE begins to creep at those temperatures. Getting this material selection right is important, and we are happy to advise if you are unsure which filler is appropriate.
For plate heat exchangers and shell-and-tube exchangers, we cut gaskets to match the exact profile of the exchanger. These are often complex shapes with multiple bolt holes and pass partition bars. Our Atom CNC cutting machines handle these accurately from DXF files.
Rubber gaskets are another regular requirement in petrochemical plants. Viton (FKM) is the go-to elastomer for hydrocarbon service because of its excellent chemical and temperature resistance. For acids and caustic solutions, EPDM is more suitable. We stock rubber sheeting in Viton, EPDM, Neoprene, Nitrile, and Silicone, and can cut gaskets to any shape.
PTFE envelope gaskets are specified on flanges carrying highly corrosive chemicals. The PTFE envelope protects a softer filler material (usually compressed fibre or rubber) from chemical attack while the filler provides the resilience needed for a good seal. We supply these in standard ASME and BS sizes.
Compression packing for chemical pumps and valves is available in PTFE, graphite, and aramid constructions. We can supply individual rings or complete packing sets sized to your stuffing box dimensions.
Petrochemical Gasket Standards
Petrochemical gaskets are typically specified to ASME B16.20 and B16.21 for North American-designed equipment, and BS EN 1514 for European designs. Fugitive emissions regulations under TA Luft and the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) are also relevant, and many of the sheet materials we stock from Klinger and Garlock carry TA Luft approval for low-emission service.
We can provide material test certificates, REACH and RoHS compliance documentation, and batch traceability on all gasket materials. For ATEX-rated environments, we supply anti-static gasket materials where required.
Practical Reasons to Use Us
We hold a large stock of sheet materials and semi-metallic gaskets ready for immediate cutting and dispatch. Our stock includes products from Garlock, Klinger, Novus Sealing, W.L. Gore, and Victor Reinz, so we can usually match whatever material is specified on your data sheet. If a particular brand is called up, we can supply it. If a generic equivalent is acceptable, we can often offer a more cost-effective option.
Our CNC cutting machines hold thousands of cutters for standard flange sizes. This means most gaskets can be produced and dispatched the same day. For non-standard shapes, send us a DXF file or even a photo of the old gasket and we will work from that.
We have supplied gaskets to petrochemical sites across the UK and internationally. See our full product range or get in touch to discuss your requirements.
