Gaskets for Power Plant Equipment
Steam systems are the backbone of most power generation plants, and they put serious demands on gasket materials. Main steam pipework at 540°C and above requires spiral wound gaskets with flexible graphite filler, or kammprofile gaskets with graphite facing. We stock both types in standard ASME and BS flange sizes, ready for same day dispatch.
Boiler drum manhole and handhole gaskets take a lot of abuse from repeated thermal cycling. We supply oval and oblong gaskets in reinforced graphite, cut to the correct profile for your boiler make and model. If you do not have a drawing, send us the old gasket or a cardboard template and we will match it.
Cooling water systems run at lower temperatures and pressures but still need reliable gaskets. EPDM rubber gaskets are the standard choice for treated cooling water. For raw water or seawater cooling, the same EPDM grades work well. We stock full face and IBC flange gaskets in EPDM for these applications.
Gas turbine exhaust systems and heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) require gaskets that handle high temperatures and large flange diameters. We can cut large-diameter gaskets on our Atom CNC machines, including gaskets over 1 metre in diameter. For exhaust flanges, reinforced graphite and high-temperature non-asbestos fibre jointing are the most common materials.
Chemical dosing systems on power plants (for boiler water treatment, flue gas treatment, and cooling water treatment) use aggressive chemicals that attack standard gasket materials. PTFE gaskets and PTFE envelope gaskets are the right choice here, and we stock them in all common sizes.
Compression packing for boiler feed pumps, condensate pumps, and cooling water pumps is another regular requirement. We supply braided packing in graphite, PTFE, and aramid fibre constructions. Stud bolts in high-temperature grades (B7/2H) are also available to complete your flange joint.
Power Industry Gasket Standards
Power generation gaskets are typically specified to ASME B16.20 and B16.21 for metallic and non-metallic types respectively. European-built equipment may reference BS EN 1514 or DIN standards. We supply to all of these and can confirm dimensional compliance on request.
The European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/EU) applies to gaskets used in pressurised systems, and the materials we stock from Klinger, Garlock, and other manufacturers carry the appropriate declarations. For nuclear applications, we can source materials with enhanced traceability and testing requirements on a project-by-project basis.
